Yes, most models flush much better than their high volume counterparts. Technology has come along way.

How much water do the new toilets use?
There are 3 models: 6 litre, Dual-Flush 6 litre/3 litre, and 4.8 litre.

Are tankless/on demand water heaters good?

Most gas water heaters are 58% to 59% efficient.

What changes can I make to my plumbing and heating / cooling system to "go green" and help the environment?
Today's water saving toilets and shower heads are a great place to start. Tankless water heaters and heat pumps are tremendous at improving comfort while saving a substantial amount of energy.

Are Gas Fireplaces Safe and What Sort of Maintenance is required?

All gas Fireplaces that Torry and Sons installs are certified to safety standards and regulations set out by the Canadian Standards Association. The safety standing pilot ensures gas does not flow to the unit when it is not in use. Most gas fireplaces, inserts and stoves are equipped with safety features such as a fail-safe shut-off valve. If the pilot flame goes out, the gas flow will automatically turn off.  It is recommended that an annual maintenance is performed on fireplaces by a licensed gas fitter to ensure the pilot light is free from debris, the gas lines are safe and the glass is secure. The glass can become discolored with use and it is quite easy to clean with some instruction from a qualified technician.

Why would my Heating System need a Tune Up?
Your heating system is made up of many intricate components – In a furnace this includes an inducer motor, pressure switch, burner and heat exchanger. A Heat Pump has even more complex mechanisms – the compressor, fan, coil and refrigerant – all working in harmony with communications from your thermostat.  With so many intricate parts all working together to heat (or cool) your home – a clean system with well lubricated parts and a fresh filter is critical for maximizing heating dollars and ensuring your family’s safety. A heating system maintenance (tune up) will inspect each one of these parts, check your filter, remove dust, pet hair and grime - which will make certain that the air circulating in your home is really clean and super warm when needed most. Even though we have barely had summer, heating season is only a month away. It is a good time to consider a Safety and Efficiency Agreement that will provide a critical check up and maintenance on the many intricate components of your heating system.

Why should I have my drains inspected and cleaned?
It is the perfect time to think about your drainage. Even though we have barely had summer, in no time at all, fall and the rains (drat!) will be here again soon! Keeping your inside drains free of dirt and household build up as well as your perimeter drains free of roots, dirt and debris will ensure that back-up of waste water will not wind up inside your home causing damage and costly repairs. Properties with mature landscaping are sometimes susceptible to older tree roots winding into perimeter drains and septic pipes that can cause blockages and drain pipe breakage. A thorough inspection of drains, including a video inspection - can target problem areas.   A hydro-flushing or auguring offers the opportunity to clean and clear blockages before they become an expensive problem.
